Caltopo GPS Field Study

NRS Instructors have been actively using Caltopo for a few years now and recommending it in our federal, state and local first responder courses, along with our regular NRS coursework.

NRS Instructor Tracy Trimble and co-author of Essential Wilderness Navigation will lead this one-day course that will go in depth in the practical use of this app.  In this course the participants will learn how to:

  • learn how to properly organize settings for personal use.
  • how to setup and recall waypoints
  • how to setup "breadcrumb" tracks and trails
  • how to organize data on maps for use on the app and on desktop.
  • how to share information with others easily.

This course will be a combination of both academic study and practical field practice.  Other land navigation training is not required prior to taking this course.
