Introduction to Amateur Radio (Ham Radio)

With 755,430 license holders in the United States, Amateur Radio is alive and growing. Amateur Radio, also known as Ham Radio, is not often discussed in the news today but often plays an essential role during disasters as well as being a favorite pastime for many. 

This zoom class is designed to help those unfamiliar with Ham Radio gain an understanding of just what it is, how it works, and how to get started.  We will also be discussing Ham Radio’s important role during disasters.

In this class you will learn the following:

  • Understand amateur radio and how it works.
  • How amateur radio can help you.
  • How amateur radio can assist emergency first responders.
  • How to get started.
  • Basic equipment needed.
