Sam Buhlig
Instructor — Survival, Tracking, Land Navigation and Communications
Sam Buhlig has been training with Nature Reliance School since 2017 and brings over three decades of diverse instructional experience to the cadre. As a former instructor at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), Sam has a strong foundation in high-stakes, real-world teaching environments.
He holds a Ham Radio Extra Class License, is Wilderness First Aid, CPR, and Stop the Bleed certified, and has spent 30 years as a martial arts instructor — all of which inform his practical, disciplined approach to self-reliance training.
At NRS, Sam enjoys instructing a wide range of courses, including Survival 1–3, Land Navigation, Scout Tracker, Bushcraft, Primitive Skills, Nature Immersion, SERE, Ham Radio, Outdoor Cooking, Tactical Mantracking, and Wilderness First Aid.
Sam is known for his thorough, encouraging teaching style and his ability to connect big-picture mindset with hands-on skills. He helps students build confidence and competence in the outdoors, whether they’re learning to navigate, track, or survive with minimal gear.
