With hands-on lessons in the field, you'll learn advanced methods to interpret terrain, estimate distances, map your own routes, and navigate by natural signs like the sun, stars, and wind.

H2: What to Bring

You’ll receive a gear list upon registration, but plan on bringing:

  • A quality baseplate compass (not a button compass)

  • You must download Caltopo with a paid membership preferred
  • Notebook and pencil

  • Backpack with day-hike essentials, lots of walking in this class

  • Physical and mental readiness for long days in varied terrain
