Without a doubt, handheld phones and all the apps that go along with them are great little tools for outdoor adventure. However, you should never use your handheld phone as a compass and expect any degree of accuracy. There are also a few other things to consider when engaging for the first time, or as a beginner, in good, solid land navigation skills.
